Hi,

I’m Emily 👋

A D.C. transplant born and raised in Minnesota, I work to incorporate the Midwestern values and Minnesota nice I grew up with into everything I do.

Doing Good For Causes I Love.

I genuinely love volunteering; I was even the President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a community service and leadership-based sorority. That love of volunteering has not only inspired the work I do professionally, like organizing on behalf of progressive issues, but also for how I spend my weekends. Since 2018, I have served as a clinic escort with the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force, where I help patients safely enter and exit abortion clinics in the DMV area. This work helps me do on the ground work for a cause I am passionate about, but also gives me an opportunity to connect with volunteers and patients from around the country. And, of course, my patience has only grown after spending many Saturday mornings dealing with anti-choice protesters. Additionally, I serve on the Development Team for the DC Abortion Fund, where I help fundraise online for abortion patients. I’m currently in training to become an abortion doula.

Advocacy. Public Speaking. Supporting Survivors.

Besides my professional interests in digital advocacy and communication, I was an active leader and volunteer among many campus organizations and nonprofits in the D.C. area. I served as the Vice President of Education for GW Students Against Sexual Assault, one of the largest advocacy organizations on the GW campus. Through this role I grew our Peer Education team and updated our workshops to be more encompassing and intersectional in our discussions on sexual violence and survivorship. Since college, I attended a Sunlight Retreat for Survivors of Rape, where I connected with dozens of survivors from across the country. Now, I help write for their blog and run their newsletter to uplift and share survivors stories. I’ve given presentations and workshops to audiences of 3 to 300, doing deep dives into how sexual violence manifests on college campuses, the intersections of rape culture in our society, and how to best support survivors of sexual violence. If you’re interested in having me speak with your high school or college group, let me know!

Wellness + Growth

Growing up, I was surrounded by the health and wellness industry – my family own a small, local health club and fitness center. I learned how to brew homemade kombucha before I owned my first car and was spotting folks in gyms before I was officially a teenager. Even in college, I was an Assistant Manager at our campus Health and Wellness Center. But the diet industry and capitalist nature of this space quickly pushed me out. Slowly, I’ve been working at unlearning so many of the harmful aspects of the wellness world and relearning to connect with the Earth, move my body in joyful ways, and nourish my mind, body, and spirit. Through this work (and it is work!), I have delved into what wellness means and looks like to me. I have received my Reiki 1 Healer certification and am currently training to become an Inner Workout facilitator.
