Planner Review #1: Things Are Looking Up Self Care Journal

Hello and welcome to my first official planner review!

Today’s planner is from the brand Fringe, a newer player in the planner world, that specializes in intentional and trendy planners. It is described as a prompted journal, although I would consider it to be more of a daily self-care planner than a prompted journal. It is also a Barnes & Noble exclusive. The magnetic bookmark is a nice plus and is included with each planner.

There is only one layout on the inside of the planner, which dedicates two pages per day to intentional and self-care centered prompts.

As you’ll soon come to learn, I almost always prefer structure, prompts, and trackers in my planners — which is why I bought this planner to begin with. I love that it devotes two pages per day, and includes multiple aspects of self-care-based content, like sleep and water trackers, a gratitude list, and a space for morning reflections. It’s also undated, which allows the user to leave and return to the planner whenever they’d like without feeling like they wasted pages.

However, if you’re looking to increase your productivity, track your to-do’s, or do essentially any of the things a “typical” planner would do, this is not the planner for you. This is clearly created to encourage its user to slow down, let loose, and use this planner as inspiration for intentional inner work.
Although I appreciate what this planner is trying to accomplish, I barely have a journaling routine as is, and I think this planner is asking a lot of its users. There is also a risk that users who do not fill up every single aspect of the page will feel guilty or like they’re not using the planner to its full intention (which isn’t true, do what works for you!), which can overwhelm users instead of helping them calm down.

Who I think this planner would be good for:

  • Those with an established journaling routine

  • Intentional morning folks

  • Colorful and creative journalers

~ Planner Vibes ~

  • GRWM girlies

  • That Girl

  • Inconsistency but cute

  • Doodles

  • Fine tip pen collectors
